Not Just Measles-Malnutrition, Children Died For Non-Vaccination in Shitakunda: DGHS Admits Failure

Suddenly, 9 children of indigenous hill-tract families have died. At first, it was thought to be new disease breakout. Later, recently sent team of Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control & Research (IEDCR) conducted thorough testing and found cause of death to be measles-malnutrition. Announces, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) General Director Prof. Dr. Abul Kalam Azad on Monday afternoon at IEDCR auditorium.
Prof. Dr. Abul Kalam regretted for DGHS’s failure that, these children were not included in the vaccination campaign’s microplan project. Unfortunately, Shonaichary union of Shitakunda upazilla were not listed in this ward-centered microplan campaign. That way, both the officials from 10 years ago and the current ones are responsible for this. He mourned for the deaths of these child.
Chittagong District Civil Surgeon Dr. Azizur Rahman Siddique also regretted and mourned for such tragic deaths. He also mentioned of other areas that are not in the list of microplan, other than Tripura paras.
Prof. Dr. Abul Kalam lastly added that, the indigenous often stays away from the modern livelihood. That way, it also becomes difficult for the authorities to take health-care services to them. Sometimes even, they refuse to accept modern allopathy.
