40% of the women seeking for help, gets harassed by the hospital employees, reports a private development association Action Aid. At the Dhaka Reporters Unit’s Public Service seminar, on Sunday. They also mentioned some of such alarming issues regarding women harassment at other public services as well.
The report was based 400 people of Khulna, Rajshahi, Chittagong & Narayanganj City Corporation – Police Administrations, transportation, market-administration & hospital services. 40% of the women receive misbehavior from hospital services. 50% are sexually harassed. Even, 30% of the women are victim of eveteasing at police stations.
Action Aid Manger Nujhat Jabin complains that, these happen mainly due to lack proper guidance and law against women harassment. There is not much transparency in sorting such issues nor there any mandatory accountability justification. Even women have no separate resting places, toilets or breast-feeding environment, in most of these public service institutions.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies former researcher Protima Paul Majumdar mentioned, the public service budget does not increase because of less revenue income. Many are tax evading. She suggests to adapt innovative ways in order to increase governmental revenue so that, public services can be improved. Other experts present at the event, also agreed on, not to rely on taxation & vat only for the required revenue.
