Acute Water-Shortage in Barind Area

Barind area of Rajshahi, is 40 meters above the sea-level. Hence, the water level in this area is naturally low. On top of it, the summer’s heat also dried up all the lakes & small rivers. People are in acute need of water. Even after digging up to 105 feet deep, most are only finding rocks. “We have no drink or clean ourselves. Tension for water is the first thing that comes in our mind, every morning we wake up”, complains the villagers.

Local representatives are urging the PM to increase budget, regarding this annual suffering. They are demanding for 2-3 submersible pumps. Researchers suggesting that, all the responsible organizations to arrange individual projects to make a difference. But, rather than sucking up the deep-water, it would be wiser to manage & utilize sources above the ground, advises RU Geology Prof. Golam Sabbir. Tuboil statistic shows, half of the 5,500 tuboils in this are out of use. 19 deep-tubeoils are idle. District Council Chairman is assuring of 300 more tuboils will be added soon. They also have some further plans to sort-out this issue.
