Bangladesh’s Population Crossed 16 Crores: BBS

Under the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), Monitoring the Situation of Vital Statistic of Bangladesh (MSVSB) Project has published the reported that, Bangladesh’s population on 1 January 2017 was, 16 crores 16 lacs and 50 thousands. BBS held an event at the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar’s NIC Seminar room to announce their statistics report.

The Project Director AKM Ashraful Haque also talked other aspects of the report and increased efficiency of BBS. BBS General Director Md. Amir Hossain hosted the event. Many other prominent others were present at the even as well.

Planning Ministry’s Statistics & Information Department’s Secretary KM Mozammel Haque admired the works of BBS and mentioned, right statistic reports regarding population is crucial for national development projects. Specially for properly covering the services for the impaired populations. He also added that, population has grown over past years. But the rate was lowest than ever.   Bangladesh’s current population growth rate 1.37%. It has been same since 2012. The man to woman ratio is 100.3:100. Still, Bangladesh is largely male dominated country. 30.8% population are under 15 years old. Old-age education rate increased most impressively. Especially among old-women. Average life span increased and currently is 71.6 years. Men with 70.3 years and women with 72.9 years, of lifespan.

BBS started in 1980. Then, they had only 103 sample areas to estimate for national statistics. Now they cover 2012 areas.
