Most of us don’t follow a specific morning routine but there are a few things that we should not indulge ourselves into right after waking up.
1.Snooze Button:
Sleep expert Timothy Morgenthaler told Business Insider’s Jessica Orwig that specialists see hitting snooze button to get a few minutes of extra sleep as not so appreciable. By stopping the alarm and going back into a deep sleep, our body does not get to finish the sleep cycle it will be entering into. so instead of feeling refreshed we might end up feeling tired this way.
2.Stay Curled-Up:
Harvard psychologist Amy Cuddy says that stretching your body in bed is a good way to start the day more confidently. She said that the people who wake up having their arms extended on both sides like a ‘V’ tend to be extremely happy throughout the day whereas people who stay curled up like a ball feel stressed out.
3.Check E-mail:
According to the statement of Julie Morgenstern given on The Huffington Post, checking e-mails at the start of your morning is a very bad idea. She suggested waiting at least 59 minutes to do this because otherwise with all the notifications you might get overwhelmed and cranky.
4.Leave the Bed Unmade:
Charles Duhigg, Author of the book called ‘The Power of Habit’ says that making your bed when you wake up ensures higher productivity throughout the day. This habit can actually help other good habits take hold according to Duhigg.
5.Drink Coffee:
Even if you want to drink coffee in the morning, take it after 9.30 am because our body produces a higher amount of cortisol which is a stress hormone between 8 am to 9 am. Cortisol regulates energy so if you drink coffee to feel energized at that time, your body will start producing less cortisol which will actually end up making you groggier.
6.Get Dressed in the Dark:
Getting ready in the dark makes your body feel that it’s still night-time because your body clock is sensitive to light and darkness as per design. Natalie Dautovich of National Sleep Foundation therefore suggests switching on a strong light if it’s still dark outside when you wake up.
7.Torturing the Ears:
Don’t wake up and start listening to music. This also is a bad start of a day. Scientists suggest we should make out a set of morning behaviors and follow it everyday as a routine. That way we can incorporate the above mentioned activities into a scheme.
